Recipe: IKEA Swedish Meatballs
Due to the pandemic, a lot of restaurants have been sharing the recipes of their signature dishes for people to try at home. One of the must-try recipes is IKEA's famous Swedish meatballs, a dish known for its soul satisfying umami flavor. I have tried slow-cooker Swedish meatballs in the past but this recipe really takes the prize!
IKEA SWEDISH MEATBALLS RECIPE
(Adapted from recipe shared by CNN)
Ingredients for the meatballs:
- 1 kilo ground pork sirloin
- 1 kg ground beef
- 1 sweet onion finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic finely minced
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 5 tablespoons of whole milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
Ingredients for the cream sauce:
- 1/4 cup butter
- 2 tbsp flour
- 1- 1/2 cup beef stock
- 1/2 cup all-purpose cream
- 1-2 tsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp mustard
- Sliced canned mushrooms
Directions:
1. Combine pork and ground beef thoroughly. Add onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, milk, and egg. Mix with your hand to combine ingredients. Season with salt and pepper.
2. Shape into 2-inch balls. Chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes until firm.
3. Fry meatballs in hot oil until golden brown. Drain and set aside.
4. Transfer meatballs to oven proof glass dish and make for 30 minutes.
5. In a saucepan, make roux using cutter and flour. Add beef stock and combine well using wire whisk. Add soy sauce and mustard. Whisk together until sauce is creamy. Add mushrooms and cream. Season with salt and pepper.
6. Take baked meatballs out of the oven. Pour cream sauce on top. Garnish with spring onions (optional). Enjoy!
