My friend and I spent a few hours at a local pottery studio to try firsthand the therapeutic art of ceramic making. I have made unglazed pinch pots and stamped clay decor using earthenware clay when I was a child. This is the first time I have used a potter's wheel and I say the process is intimidating but you'll get to "tame" the clay with enough practice. Clay is like water. It's very fluid. The slightest movement changes the appearance or style of the clay. Learning pottery is a very humbling experience and undeniably a spiritual craft. It's amazing how the clay yields to the softest touch or to the slightest pressure. Meanwhile, glazing a naked clay bowl is an exercise in embracing the capricious nature of fire and earth elements. You'll never know how the baked ceramic will all turn out!
My finished ceramic projects are simple, imperfect but lovingly handmade. We will visit the studio again sometime for more tutorials(thank you to our patient teachers)to refine our skills. In the meantime, these items can be used as mini succulent plant pots or vessels for trinkets and stuff.
Have you tried pottery and ceramic crafts before?
